For the second time in the history of our missionary society we mourn the death of one of our loved members.  Sister Ellen Torr in the prime of life has been suddenly taken from our midst. Sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust, she left her earthly home on Feb. 13, 1893.  For 30 years she was a devoted Christian, having united with the Baptist Church on her 16th birthday but after her marriage she joined the Methodist Church, the choice of her husband, WL Torr. She was one of the charter members of our missionary society, holding the office of Corresponding Secretary for five years, then that of President two years, only the last year being out of office. She was rarely absent from our meetings; never unless compelled by sickness to stay at home. Sadly we miss her at all of our gatherings – at our missionary meetings at church, at our social gatherings or at the bedside of the sick.  As her esteemed friend and former pastor said of her, she was never too tired to go to the house of God, never too wearly to go where duty called her. She was even-tempered, mild and gentle, unpretentious and always faithful.  (smudged.
